What color paint goes with sage bedspread and mauve carpet?

I am looking to repaint my master bedroom and bath and need some help with paint colors. My carpet is mauve, my new comforter is sage green. What color do I paint the walls? That will be beautiful? Also what color window tratments should I get?

Walls - ivory, white, paler mauve, or paler green than bedding


Windows: should be same color as bedding, walls, or carpet; or print of several of the colors [ could probably find a flowered one pretty easily ]


Buy paint AFTER you pick out window treatments - you'll have a better picture of how wall color will look.
Reply:Natural lighting plays a big part. If you have northern or southern lighting your paint color will remain true most of the day. Eastern or western light will intensify the color in the AM or PM, respectively. Northern exposure benefits from warmer colors, southern exposure can handle cooler colors.





Speaking for myself, I have solved the headache of picking paint colors by doing the following. I go to the paint store and pick out three colors that please my eye. It doesn't matter why you like the colors. All that matters is that you like them. If the colors are available in the sample bottles buy them that way. If not, get a quart of each color. Now, get a piece of posterboard and fold it in thrids. Paint each 1/3 of the posterboard with one of the paint colors. Cut them apart so that you have three separate paint samples you can hang on your wall. Use painter's tape to tape them onto your wall. You can move them around and see them in different light. You can take them off the wall and hold them against your bedding and carpeting to see how they will look. You can hold them up against paintings, etc you already own to see how the color will look. Once you are pleased with a color, buy it and paint your room. Especially the bedroom should be a room where you are happy. The colors should be colors that please you.





Personal preference: I adore Benjamin Moore's Georgetown Pink Beige. It is a warm color that looks like liquid make up. It is a marvelous neutral. I have it in three rooms of my house and it looks great in each one.





As for window treatments an interior decorator once pointed out to me that your bedroom is your little lair. No one else has to see it. Buy what appeals to your eye. If you want just matchstick shades, buy those. Fabulous elegant drapes, buy those. Look in magazines and discover what appeals to you.

Reply:I think a softer mauve wall color and sage green window treatments would look really nice. Like the other person who answered a print of some kind on the windows would be nice. Also floral pictures of pinks and greens, such as roses would look nice on the walls too. You could also reverse the colors in the bath. Sage green walls and mauve towels and window treatments.
