i'm trying to make a blanket but need more yarn. the company is red heart - misty color is sage mary 2947. I bought this years ago, but can't find it now does anyone have any ideas where i could find more?

I would try either Michael's, Joann fabric or try going to Red Heart's web site and contact them directly. The problem is that you may not be able to find the right color lot and your color with the old yard and the new yarn will be off. They may have some of that color lot left, depending on how long ago you purchased that yarn. Good Luck!

If you're talking about Salvia (sage) that'll trip you out and make you hallucinate, that stuff is illegal in some states (California could possibly prosecute though it's not illegal) so think about that before you try to have it shipped to ya. You'd have to go online most likely to get it.

Wow your living room sounds a lot like mine! I just bought couches too! I went with an olive green. It is so dark that it almost looks brown. I could not be happier! Ashley furniture is soooo nice. That is what I went with. Almost everyone who sells couches will have this brand.
Reply:IKEA. Traditional decorating would say get something next to sage green on the color wheel, in the same tone, or across the color wheel in the same tone. For a room, go same color, different tone, like a darker sage couch, with lighter sage pillows.
Do whatever looks good to you. Who cares what anybody else thinks if it looks good to you? The living room is yours.

If you are going for contemporary I would suggest the cream or eggplant. The yellow or maroon may give off to much of a country cottage look if the shape of the couch isn't comtemporay enough. Also, if the room is large enough you could go with black leather but you want a good size room for this.

Reply:I also have a sage colored family room and I also like a contemporary,and iam fortunate to work with designers on a weekly baisis so i asked them and here is what happened, I got glass topped coffee table and end tables with legs that matched my dark wood trim, since my carpet is light they worked wonderfully, then most contemporary design is somewhat monochromatic , my couch ,love sear and chair are all of the same fabric which is a beige color with a subtle pattern of color and those colors in the pattern are the sages and the browns of the wood and coffee table legs, but the pattern is so subtle is is not at all distracting ,it is all very monochromatic ,and the contrast in the room(typical to contemporary design) comes from art and acessories ,which are minimal and strategically placed around the room.

Rust and sage are colors of the American southwest. I'd find some beautiful photo books from the library of that part of the country and choose your colors from those. Sage has purple blossoms, and silvery foliage grows near by, with accents of red, flame, etc. I think your best inspiration will be from photos of the Colorado/New Mexico/Utah landscapes. You don't have to do a Western theme room to use that color palette. In general, colors found together in nature are pleasing and relaxing to look at in decor.

What must a person do in order to become a sage and philosopher?
Develop one's capacity for deeper thought, for both. Mere study of philosophy does not make one a philosopher. A philosopher does not require a teacher. Teachers of philosophy pass down the thoughts of another philosopher, but an actual philosopher is an independent thinker.
A sage... my take on this role... to me a sage is a person who out of deep thought, self-knowledge, and intuition; a spiritual guide arises. They have created their own philosophy to be at peace with the many incongruences of life. They are the type of person who may know of other forms of thought but would seldom adopt these ideals.
I have read some philosophies, but have therein learned to philosophize, which in my opinion is a personal and spiritual practice. It is definetly worth doing. Once you leap out into the world community, you may notice some very puzzling challenges to previous spiritual conjectures, things that may have seemed so apparent become fuzzy, doubtful, and troubling; then you are well on the way to try to philosophize about them. Once you figure out a way to explain why, for instance: God exists and famine and injustice exist too, but God is good. You will be on your way to sagacity. A sage should help others to feel better about the pain of life and how to be happy with life. These are my own thoughts, and are free to be dissagreed with, but if you look through my words you will see what I mean: Don't adopt the words, instead, adopt the idea of independent thinking, question your surroundings, and try to see the good in the world. Know that the bad is just less good, do not believe in evil, believe only in less good. I believe that we are the glorious incarnations of the many great facets of God, in order to be most reunited we must become most good. My additional idea is that God has created life and eternity but cannot be overtly involved in the present, or otherwise the distinctions of good and not good will not come to be; Earth and the realm of life is a plane of purification for the spirit of God (us).
I do not encourage this belief, but it is my own, it is my philosophy, and any inspiration which I share with someone with the intent of helping them is ultimately rooted in this vision and thus I am not prone to the usual religious conflicts that mythologies create. I am more at peace with my present beliefs, and not terribly vulnerable to personal attacks on my spirituality.
I have studied and practiced Buddism, Gnosicism, The Craft,
and others including Christianity. I have fallen down to atheism and have recovered from that, now I see God everywhere. A sage helped me on my way. He was a Ghuru which I was fortunate enough to meet. I will say that no one must meet a ghuru or do anything. Live life well and learn to open your awareness. I encourage you to learn the pure discipline of meditation; you must practice to silence your mind, the more you do this, the better your focus and clarity of mind will be afterwords.
I hope you trust my advice but otherwise know there are no shortcuts to anythings worthwhile. Also, there are infinite paths in this life which lead to the same places, and thus there is simply no possible way that one can do as another and arrive at the same result, this only exists in mathematics. So by that know that I am only right for myself, my reality exists in my mind, and my path is less likely to be the path of anyone else.
I would like to further say that a particularly brilliant and detailed post was made by a man above me. I feel like he is particularly wise. My best advice would be listen and do not become discouraged by the path to growth.

I suggest Happy Hiram's answer is way above the best because, in the first place, it is better than it needs to be; second, it is funny and true wisdom tends to be that way; third, it is erudite and forces you seek your own answers.
I was going to suggest that sage and philosopher are different roles. The philosopher loves wisdom, (as the etymnology of the word suggests); the sage IS wisdom.
The chief philosopher in the west is Socrates. I highly recommend Protagoras, which much like Happy Hiram's reply is funny, erudite, and better than it needs to be.

You already are a philosopher, all philosophers really do is ask questions about the essence and nature of life and attempt to find answers for them. 3. Think about the world , what it means to live, to die, to exist, and what the point of it is. Be the source of your own investigation. 4. Write down what you think about these subjects, including ideas you think you shouldn't write down (possibly because you think others may think they are stupid). A sage... my take on this role... to me a sage is a person who out of deep thought, self-knowledge, and intuition; a spiritual guide arises. They have created their own philosophy to be at peace with the many incongruences of life. They are the type of person who may know of other forms of thought but would seldom adopt these ideals.
I have read some philosophies, but have therein learned to philosophize, which in my opinion is a personal and spiritual practice. It is definetly worth doing. Once you leap out into the world community, you may notice some very puzzling challenges to previous spiritual conjectures, things that may have seemed so apparent become fuzzy, doubtful, and troubling; then you are well on the way to try to philosophize about them. Once you figure out a way to explain why, for instance: God exists and famine and injustice exist too, but God is good. You will be on your way to sagacity. A sage should help others to feel better about the pain of life and how to be happy with life. These are my own thoughts, and are free to be dissagreed with, but if you look through my words you will see what I mean: Don't adopt the words, instead, adopt the idea of independent thinking, question your surroundings, and try to see the good in the world. Know that the bad is just less good, do not believe in evil, believe only in less good. I believe that we are the glorious incarnations of the many great facets of God, in order to be most reunited we must become most good. My additional idea is that God has created life and eternity but cannot be overtly involved in the present, or otherwise the distinctions of good and not good will not come to be; Earth and the realm of life is a plane of purification for the spirit of God (us).
I do not encourage this belief, but it is my own, it is my philosophy, and any inspiration which I share with someone with the intent of helping them is ultimately rooted in this vision and thus I am not prone to the usual religious conflicts that mythologies create. I am more at peace with my present beliefs, and not terribly vulnerable to personal attacks on my spirituality.
I have studied and practiced Buddism, Gnosicism, The Craft,
and others including Christianity. I have fallen down to atheism and have recovered from that, now I see God everywhere. A sage helped me on my way. He was a Ghuru which I was fortunate enough to meet. I will say that no one must meet a ghuru or do anything. Live life well and learn to open your awareness. I encourage you to learn the pure discipline of meditation; you must practice to silence your mind, the more you do this, the better your focus and clarity of mind will be afterwords.
I hope you trust my advice but otherwise know there are no shortcuts to anythings worthwhile. Also, there are infinite paths in this life which lead to the same places, and thus there is simply no possible way that one can do as another and arrive at the same result, this only exists in mathematics. So by that know that I am only right for myself, my reality exists in my mind, and my path is less likely to be the path of anyone else.
I would like to further say that a particularly brilliant and detailed post was made by a man above me. I feel like he is particularly wise. My best advice would be listen and do not become discouraged by the path to growth.

I was going to suggest that sage and philosopher are different roles. The philosopher loves wisdom, (as the etymnology of the word suggests); the sage IS wisdom.

Will pineapple sage continue to bloom again, after the red flowers have fallen off ? Do I need to deadhead ?
When I bought the plant it had abundant red flowers. Then they slowly fell off. It seems that there are new buds forming, but I am not sure. Will it bloom again, fall off and then bloom again ?

pretty sure nope- i tried smoking it dried when i was 12 and it was just nasty...course maybe that's cause i was 12. It makes a great soup broth though, and great tea for sore throats. Mint is very good chopped up in salad, in drinks (especially mojitos and juleps), you could pretty much toss it with any veggies. It would also add good flavour to lamb or on desserts as garnish (chocolate stuff). Also makes a great tea- relaxing and good for the digestion.

But they will take most of the summer to grow big.If you just need the seeds you can buy them at grocery stores everywhere. You can also buy dried sage in the spice department of your grocery store.

I've sold them before to a lady in Bismarck with an apiary but that was years ago. I know there are seed heads in the fields but the birds have eaten the seed. If you want to pay postage I could send you some and you could glue seeds back in LOL. Best I can do RScott

Will a blue-grey go with ecru, antique rose and sage green?
I have an ecru eyelet lace bedspread, and antique rose drapes. I want to add accents of sage green, and a blue-grey. Will this be too many colors? If not, can I paint the walls blue-grey? Or would the sage green be better on the walls, with the blue-grey used as throw pillows on the bed?

Go with the sage green. I am really a shabby chic decorater, and I have found that slate blue looks great for accents, but it is overall too depressing for walls. I painted my walls a colour called "sage green tea". I also have rose drapery, and a very nice handmade quilt with blues, greens, etc. Stick with the slate blue for accents, and it will make the room feel not too "frilly" and "girly". Another plus about the green is that light bounces easier off light colours, so it will make the space seem brighter and cleaner.
Reply:I would go with sage on the walls. I just painted over a room that was blue gray because it was SO DEPRESSING!!! Use it as an accent, but I don't receommend it for the walls.
Reply:Skip the blue-grey. The sage and rose will look good together, and the ecru will lighten the room and give the eye a place to rest. Sage on the walls, definitely. You can add more colors, but you need to vary the depth of color. Blue-grey, sage, and antique rose are all very similar DEPTH. To determine depth, get a piece of clear red plastic and put the colors side by side. Cover with the red plastic - you'll see that they all look pretty much the same.
Go with another color that is either much lighter or much darker. A dark plum would look good - contrasts with the green, compliments the rose. Try to find a print fabric that incorporate several of the colors - use in a pillow or curtains.

I painted my walls a colour called "sage green tea". I also have rose drapery, and a very nice handmade quilt with blues, greens, etc. Stick with the slate blue for accents, and it will make the room feel not too "frilly" and "girly". Another plus about the green is that light bounces easier off light colours, so it will make the space seem brighter and cleaner.
Reply:I would go with sage on the walls. I just painted over a room that was blue gray because it was SO DEPRESSING!!! Use it as an accent, but I don't receommend it for the walls.
Reply:Skip the blue-grey. The sage and rose will look good together, and the ecru will lighten the room and give the eye a place to rest. Sage on the walls, definitely. You can add more colors, but you need to vary the depth of color. Blue-grey, sage, and antique rose are all very similar DEPTH. To determine depth, get a piece of clear red plastic and put the colors side by side. Cover with the red plastic - you'll see that they all look pretty much the same.
Go with another color that is either much lighter or much darker. A dark plum would look good - contrasts with the green, compliments the rose. Try to find a print fabric that incorporate several of the colors - use in a pillow or curtains.

Is this real suede leather? Or suede fabric? Suede fabric should be able to be washed. Do the pillows have zippered covers. I take mine off and wash them once a year. If they are not zippered call Stanley steamers and have them steam cleaned on the sofas. They do a great job.

I will say that I have two inexpensive leather jackets that I love. I checked on having them cleaned and it was going to cost more than they did. But the sofa is much more expensive and would be worth the investment.

What is wrong with my pineapple sage?
about a year ago I was given a pineapple sage plant. I cloned this plant several times and moved them all out side into gallon size pots, in an area where they get a majority of shade but a good amount of sun. one by one the leaves of some of the plants (not all) have started yellowing, especially around the veins. Next they wilt a little and the leaves start dying on the edges and then completely until hole sides of the plant are dead. we have fertilized these plants with fertilizer that is guaranteed not to burn. I have no idea whats going on, please if you have any idea what's wrong let me know :)

i assume you are referring to removing unwanted spirits from your home? if so, burn the sage and walk room to room saying a prayer. make sure you also burn outside around the house and on your property. they tend to hide outside too. or are you trying to get rid of bugs? good luck

its not sage that is used to dye hair it is henna, made from the dark laurel leaves.

Just launder it frequently. For winter, a warm rich color like plum or burgandy or burnt orange makes it feel cozy. Also, black and sage always look great together, too. Browns come and go, but black is forever.

follow the directions on the box BUT cut up sum onion and celery as much as u like put in a pot with butter and saute then add sage as much as you like i put a tablespoon or two let cook for a minute then add the dressing and follow the directions .. it does taste great and noone will know.. and without the dressing in the bird the turkey will cook faster.. hope this helps makes it an easy start for you and once you try stuff like this youll be a pro in no time --promise :) .. take care

We have picked out a tan/white/brownish tile for the floor and plan to put tile on the countertops--same as the floor. We were planning to paint the cabinets white to match the beadborad and a folding door that goes into the utility room. Not sure what color would really look best for the cabinets? Since all of your accents are white you would need to go with white cabinets. But maybe try to pull in the green on the hardware, if you can't find the right color buy plain wood knobs and pulls and paint them with your wall color then seal with a good coat of varnish. I'm a fan of stainless but it is very finger print prone so be aware of that plus it is always more expensive than a white appliance. But either one would go well go with your gut instinct. Go to the appliance store and see which appliance color/type you gravitate to first and get that.

What can I do with SAGE?
Sage is a little bit limited, compared to some other herbs (like parsley). It has a very pronounced aroma and flavor. But it does work very well with most red meats, especially strongly-flavored things like venison and goose (yes, I consider that a red meat). Also, it works really well with most egg dishes, though you'll want to use it very sparingly. You can add it to stews and soups (as well as chili), or even throw a couple of whole leaves into a mixed-green salad.
Make sure you rub the sage before you add it; just roll the leaf between your fingers, to get the leaf pulverized. This releases the oils inside the sage, so it'll blend better with other ingredients.
Another thing you can try: if you've got large, whole leaves, you can pan fry them in a little butter (please use butter, not margarine) until they're good and crisp. Then eat them like popcorn. No, really, I do this all the time, and it's delicious. It works even better if you've got fresh (not dried) leaves.

Pour a small amount of water in a shallow pan or baking sheet and top with potatoes, spreading them out evenly. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Roast potatoes for 15 minutes. Remove foil and roast 15 minutes more. Turn potatoes. Roast 10 to 15 minutes more until crisp. Sprinkle with remaining tablespoon of sage and serve.

Get some pork chops. Dip the pork chops into the egg, and then roll it in the bread crumb mixture.
Pan fry until the coating is golden and put it in the oven to cook.
So yummy!

I had a gorgeous stuffing made largely from barley in a resturant in Scotland - don't know what else went into it, but maybe there's a website for old-fashioned Scottish recipes; it was memorable beyond words.
Chestnuts work well as a basis, and so does sausagement; there's a Persian stuffing most often used with lamb that's based on rice with chopped apricots, onions, cumin, and I'd be happy to experiment with that also.
By the way, if you're cooking the chicken separately, a tip I picked up ages ago was to stick an apple and an onion in its cavity and start to cook it breast-down, so that the juices run through and keep it moist (this is really good with turkey, which is usually very dry) and then turn it upside down to crisp up the breast skin for the last 20 minutes or so.

2 tablespoons butter, melted
10 - 12 slices bread
1 Granny Smith apple
1 tablespoons orange peel (I grate my own fresh)
1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
Tear bread into chunks. Add butter, chopped apple, orange peel and seasoning. Mix together. Add milk to moisten. Bake 45 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees.

1 cup chopped apples
1/2 cup chopped onion

PREPARATION:

Cook for 30 minutes in a preheated 350F oven. Be sure stuffing reaches 165F. Cook to your liking, some people like it softer than others.

A sage is a cooking appliance used to cook middle-eastern flatbread. It looks like an upside-down wok. It's pronounced "sagh", as in massage. I'm looking for one that has a natural gas burner incorporated into it.

To get 1/4 cup of flowers, you'll need 20 or more flower stems of pineapple sage. It's a bit tedious, but you need to pluck the tiny, bright red flowers one-by-one. It's okay of you end up with a little bit of the sepals (the green stuff around the base of the flower.) Combine all these ingredients in a nonmetallic bowl. Cover, then refrigerate for at least 12 hours before using. This allows plenty of time for the flavors to meld.
The salsa is also good as a dip with chips or served on seafood. And believe it or not, it tastes pretty good on ice cream, too! You might consider eliminating the onions, even though they're sweet.

24 oz. frozen corn or 16 oz. of frozen corn and 3 ears of fresh corn cut off the cob
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon medium chili powder
1/8 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup onion
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
Vegetable oil for deep frying
Add half of the frozen corn to the coriander, chili powder, salt, sugar, red pepper, and onion in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Pulse until it reaches the consistency of oatmeal. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, sift together the baking powder and flour. Then add the flour mixture, the eggs, and the remaining corn to the first corn mixture. Stir until mixed.
Pour oil about 1-1/2" deep in a heavy frying pan. Heat the oil to 350 degrees for deep frying. Drop the batter by rounded tablespoons into the oil. Turn the fritters occasionally to brown evenly on all sides. Cooking time will vary, but it usually takes 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on absorbent paper. Serve immediately with the pineapple salsa. If you have any left over, they hold up pretty well and are even tasty cold the next day. They also freeze well. And you can also freeze the left over salsa. It will lose its color, but not its taste.

5 eggs
2 tbsp chop pineapple sage leaves
(new leaves have the most pineapple flavor)

4 Tablespoons well-squeezed, chopped pineapple
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups flour
Cream the butter and the sugar until very light and fluffy. Beat in the honey. Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to beat for one minute after each addition. Beat in the sage leaves, flowers and lemon peel. Stir the dry ingredients together and add to the butter mixture. Fold these together gently, until just blended. Pour into four miniature loaf pans (6 inches by 3 1/4 inches by 2 inches). Bake in a pre-heated 325xF oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until golden brown. (A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.) Cool for 10 minutes on a rack, then turn out of pans and continue to cool. *the recipe can be made without the flowers, if the plant has stopped flowering and no flowers are available. No adjustments to the recipe are necessary.

How about trying a kiev type thing with a turkey breast? Mix the sage with the butter without melting it, make a small pocket in the breast meat and stuff it with the butter.
It then needs to be breaded, but as the filling will become liquid, the process will need to be done twice. Dip in flour, egg, breadcrumbs then the egg and breadcrumbs again.
You can cook this in the oven if you want to be healthy or deep fry.
It actually works surprisingly well served with a tomato and herb sauce.

Salvia pratensis, Blue Meadow Clary is another hardy and attractive plant.

Scarlet sage - Salvia splendens is now available in many colors not just red
Victoria sage Salvia farinacea flowers all season and is very tidy.
Indigo Spires is a hybrid of Victoria Sage with 18" spikes of blueish purple.
Canary Island Sage - S. canariensis come with pink flowers on wooly stems
Mexican Blue Sage - S. chamaedryoides has the truest blue flowers and mounds nicely at 2x4'

Have you every consider a Sunday brunch , with flavored coffees and juices . Can be something different and cost is less for breakfast items . pastries eggs, etc.. than you can give away flavored Starbucks coffees and coordinating items as gifts ...kinda fun. I did it for a Friend it was a huge success. can also hire cheif to stand at buffett and prepare omelets per order . have fun.

Depending on your budget, I recently heard of an outside wedding shower where the bridesmaids had various stations (tiki huts) set up where the guests could get manicures, pedicures, massages, etc. This was used to replace, what some consider redundant, the wedding shower games that are repeated quite often. Everyone, including the men, had a wonderful time and all got pampered before the wedding. Just thought I'd share that idea since it was something I never would have thought of doing. Depending on your budget, I recently heard of an outside wedding shower where the bridesmaids had various stations (tiki huts) set up where the guests could get manicures, pedicures, massages, etc. This was used to replace, what some consider redundant, the wedding shower games that are repeated quite often. Everyone, including the men, had a wonderful time and all got pampered before the wedding. Just thought I'd share that idea since it was something I never would have thought of doing. Have you every consider a Sunday brunch , with flavored coffees and juices . I did it for a Friend it was a huge success. can also hire cheif to stand at buffett and prepare omelets per order . have fun.

The porcelain lid of my toilet is cracked. Does anyone know where you can buy a spare one in wild sage?
I dropped a perfume bottle and it bounced off the porcelain lid of my loo. It now has a crack across the top. It is in a colour called wild sage which is pretty much out of fashion now. I want to know who on line or otherwise might sell me one.

Reply:unfortunately you are probably looking at replacing the whole toilet if you want to fix this. there are so many styles and manufacturers of toilets that no one has bothered to try and make replacement lids for all of them, especially since you can get complete toilets at the big box chains for only $70.

The sage , cream and a small amt of third color coral is a very pretty look. Some people add black pillows or touches of black instead of coral . Black painted furniture is very popular now. I just bought a black desk that looks pretty against the colors you mention.. Try black touches- sage and cream---or go with the cream and coral. I think you will be happy with either look. It wouldn't be saltimbocca without it, however, if you just eliminate it the final product is now commonly referred to as Veal Monte Cristo. If you want to add color to the product just finely chop some Italian parsley and garnish the product after it is cooked. Another alternative would be to replace the sage leaf with a fresh basil leaf it will be totally different in flavor but would work well.
Reply:I use marjoram ( a milder herb, similar to oregano ) in my recipe. Also thyme and / or fresh rosemary is a good substitute.
Reply:As those people are not familiar with the dish your cooking, I am I was a chef for a number of years and did work in Northern Italian based operations, for that, a few sprigs of flat leaf parsley (tops only) is fine even a touch of garlic rubbed on the meat or to get the parsley and prosciutto to stick mix a bit of oil and chopped garlic, put the ham down and the parsley on top and the roll, I use large cocktail sticks of small bamboo skewers cut in half, just enough to fold over the meat and brown them well.
Sauce wis I alway prefered a marsala and butter reduction, but white wine is fine also.

You are better off taking a basic bookkeeping course rather than one specifically for Sage. Although Sage is the most popular software package there are lots of others. I suggest this is something you would do better to learn from a book than online. There are plenty of good books on bookeeping - just check out your local bookshop or go online.
Another approach is simply to buy the basic version of the Sage software, which costs about £ 120, and learn it at home using the Help and Tutorials.
Also it impresses employers if you have become a member of a professional body and have started studying for a recognised qualification.

I'm sure it isn't as harmful as the over the counter packs with added chemicals to ensure your addiction, but is there any evidence out there about just how harmful sage, wild, or home grown may be?

The risks are lung problems for starters. Smoking stuff you roll yourself is worse because there is no filter. You are still at risk for lung cancer, hypertension, atherosclerosis, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and many other problems. All of these things and the meds you have to take to treat them will eventually lead to other health problems, like heart problems, kidney failure, liver disease, poor blood circulation, activity intolerance .... Still wanna smoke? I work o a lung transplant floor at a hospital and trust me, you don;'t want to have to go through that. They make two large incisions on your back, that are closed by staples (which is really fun to lay on all night), they put tubes into your lungs to drain fluid that apparently hurt like hell, you are hooked up to several IVs, you are on meds that cause you to gain weight, high blood pressure, get a type of diabetes, and put you at a really high risk for infection from even the most common bacteria. You have to take these meds every day of your life as scheduled or you will reject your transplant (your body will attack it) and then you will have to either get another or slowly die. Trust me, smoking is not worth it. I have become so against it after seeing the effects of smoking all of the time.

We've just moved into a new apartment and we have new furniture.We've run into a little bump in the road trieing to find anything to match it.

well if you can go get a swatch..a color guide and then play with that with the sage green. if it is pastels then stick w/ that. Just don't mix sage green w/ neon green..if you know what i mean. anyways play off of it w/ some lighter greens and a bit darker green and blues and yellows should mix well. maybe a lighter green than sage on your chair w/ a dark green textured pillow like velvet or cordoroy. on the couch play up the pillows w/ different colors of green. also purple goes great w/ green. if you have an area rug that goes well with the furniture then pick out all the colors of your rug and play that into the mix. well hope that helps. Reply:In my opinion, orange or orangish brown would look good with it. (of course, I'm also imagining light wood floors and white curtains) It depends on stuff like that. Green (or jade or whatever) is an earthy color, so it looks good with other light and earthy colors.

Do I have to prime over dark brown paint if I am using a sage green over it? It is on the outside of my house.
I am thinking of painting the trim on my house. It is currently dark brown, and I want it to be a sage green. The brown is in good shape yet so can I just paint over that with the green or do I have to prime it?

Since you're not painting bare wood or metal, the primer would actually be wasted. Save it for actual priming. Get a "blockout" paint, such as Kilz, or simply good quality white or even yellow. This will lighten the surface so the darker brown doesn't bleed through, and chances are you'll only need one coat of the green. Were you using something dark like a hunter green, then I'd say go ahead and paint it right over the brown. But sage green? Nope. The brown beneath would darken it.

Personally, I would have the primer tinted to the same color as the new paint. Prime and paint, just to be on the safe side. But that's just me.

It may take 2 coats but it will be faster than priming first.Priming is used when there is bare wood or high gloss on the present finish,or the finish is (chalking) rub your hand against the finish if your hand turns the color of the finish then wash and prime. I have 34 years in exterior and interior painting.
Reply:Since the brown is a darker color you would definitely want to use an exterior latex water based primer. If not you may have to go over the brown with several green coats to cover properly. Primer is generally used so the paint adheres well to the surface, but I always prime out the area if I am going from a darker color to a lighter one.
Reply:if you want the paint job to last, which some painters do not, prime the house first. primer helps the new paint bond to the old, and seals the old job, so it won't bleed or show through. if you've ever seen a house that's all flaky and peeling, that's what can happen without primer first. skipping the primer can lead to allagatoring, and feathering, where the new paint pulls the old coats apart, or the new paint peels off. latex paint is more flexible than oil and old dried out latex, so priming will help prevent these problems. i know, because i see it all the time, and my father in law did it to my current home, that we bought from him. i do siding and roofing for a living, and cover up these problems.
