Is it possible to dye a nomex flight suit from sage green to navy blue or black? If so what dye should be used?

Nomex is a very difficult fiber to dye. Some people have managed to redye Nomex flight suits a fairly light color using acid dye. One readily-available source of a rather non-washfast acid dye is Rit all-purpose dye, or another all-purpose dye such as Tintex Easy Fabric Dye or Dylon Multi Purpose dye. These dyes perform poorly on cotton but are more acceptable on nylon, and Nomex is chemically related to nylon. You will need to use several times as many boxes of dye as the package instructions indicate, hotter water temperatures, and longer dyeing times. Even then, you must regard this as an experiment, as dyeing Nomex is not among the applications that this dye is recommended for.

Disperse dye might also work, but it requires boiling, which is impractical for home use on an item as large as a flight suit.

If the flight suit has been treated to be water resistant or stain resistant, it will also resist dye. Permanent press finishes can be removed with muriatic acid, but this acid is hazardous to use and not recommended for use by amateurs.
