There are many types of sage; salvia officinalis is the variety that you speak of, and it is not toxic unless consumed as a pure essential oil. You could have some negative side effects if you took extreme quantities; "All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous." Paracelsus
The leaves have many healing qualities and are anti-microbial.
Reply:I have a sage in my back yard,I washed my late diabetic husband big wound in his leg and it healed but we did not tell it to the doctor.I was nervous wreck and I drank it as a tea and I gave some to my co -worker that can not sleep and it help them. If you plant it on the ground it thrive and the scent is good. Thank you for your question, it remind me to take care of that sage in my back yard.
