It has a really deep tap root and I can only pull up a couple before I'm exhaust. They're in the rock section of my yard and are getting huge. What can I do? Their stems too thick for the usual weed whacker.

Roundup. You can get it at Lowe's in a spray bottle. But be careful when you spray, because Roundup will kill everything. Don't do it on a windy day.
