Does burning sage have any effect on the brain like marijuana?

My parents have been sucked into smudging...an old indian ritual and they want to know if it effects the brain, similar to smoking marijuana? My mom says she feels funny after and gets a headache.

no it doesn't. i've been doing it for years,however i do know some people are allergic to it or if they have asthma the smoke can trigger an attack. white sage is to cleanse the mind, body %26amp; spirit , it does not cause brain damage.WITHOUT it i was "dain bramaged"!! they might want to try burning a smaller amount %26amp; removing the stems.
