In the news, salvia is a drug, in english is called sage, is the same we use for cooking?

It is the same family, but two different species.

The sage used in cooking is Salvia officinalis, which comes from the Mediterranean area

The sage used as a drug is Salvia divinorum, which comes from Mexico.

There are over 1000 species of Salvia.

In the news, salvia is a drug, in english is called sage, is the same we use for cooking?
Definitely not. Salvia divinorum is only one member of the salvia family, and the one we use for cooking is not a drug, it is an herb. Neither are any of the decorative garden salvias, annual or perennial, that are sold in garden centers. I have never seen salia divinorum for sale anywhere, and in some states it is already an illegal drug.
