I don't think this Salvia is of the mint family, rather the sage family (hence the name Salvia).?

Mexican sage (or the Salvia to which you refer) has dark purple spikes and sage-like leaves (non edible). It is an ornamental plant is my understanding. I grow it in half barrels mixed with other plants. Looks rather nice.

Reply:http://www.Salvia.md has the most potent extract I've ever tried. They also have a ton of info on the subject. My other favorite "herb" is Kratom: http://www.Kratom.md It's like Opium, but legal. Trippy stuff!
Reply:It is from the Sage genus and the Mint family.
